Ana RUIZ BOWEN

Ana is an engineer and environmental specialist on sustainable construction, bio-climate and the sustainable city. Since 2016 she is the director of the "Smart & Resiliants Cities" master of sciences and engineering at HEI (Haute Etudes d'Ingénieur) at the Université Catholique de Lille, France. This program integrates the teaching approach of ADICODE (Ateliers de l’innovation et du co design) by integrating teaching practices through project studio, a user centred approach and codesign. Her role at HEI also encompasses the creation of working relationships with industry, and international academic institutions with a view to developing broad working relationships. Since 2004 she has lectured on construction in “Ecole National Supérieur d’Achitecture at Paris - Malaquais, Versailles and Lille and she also participated in project studio at ENSA Versailles as well as internationally, at ESAD in Tunisia, Saint Luc in Belgium , the Urbana-Champaign School of Architecture in Illinois and TEC Monterrey in Mexico. She joined the world of engineering “ grandes écoles” in France from 2012, where she combines lecturing and business support activities on their innovation projects. Since 2017 she has collaborated with Matrice and Ecole 42 a unique program based around digital innovation and entrepreneurship. Each project is created under the aegis of a major partner (public institutions, companies, research laboratories, etc.) with major challenges and a multidisciplinary team. She coaches and accompanies teams in their creation of start-ups by training through design and by helping them to develop their strategy in a 360° holistic manner. She is a member of the scientific committee of the Energy, Habitat and Environment Chair at the Catholic University of Lille. She is author of numerous articles in various journals with a particular interest in innovative teaching methods and the approaches of engineers and architects. Prior to participating full time in higher education Ana spent 11 years working for various consulting firms and design offices in environment, urban planning and architecture becoming department head. Most notably, she has worked at RFR, AREP and ELIOTH. During this time she worked in multidisciplinary teams involved in mastering innovation with high added value, strongly connected to architecture and engineering.
